Phil Spencer said "I should be able to do that and to try force people to buy something by excluding their choice.”
What about the people who made a choice to buy a PS4 and want to play Rise of the Tomb Raider? I understand the need for all the console companies to have exclusives to differentiate them but to then take shots at rivals for doing the same is absurd.
The choice he is talking about is playing Xbox One games on PC. It seems the choice is not...
It's not shady. Sony and investors needed to gauge demand for a new Shenmue. If the target was hit they would invest. It also helped generate excitement at the conference. Does the idiot from Gamesradar honestly believe a new open world game would only cost $2 million?!
If anyone is unhappy they can cancel their Kickstarter pledge, although the funding is actually getting higher. But this is muckraking gutter journalism. Trying to turn such a great positive, bringing ba...
"We’ll also give players the option to purchase REQ Packs as a matter of convenience, with a portion of the proceeds going toward prize pools for the Halo Championship Series."
Microsoft has a lot of money in the bank and this is their biggest franchise. Surely it's better that they fund the prize pool?
At last year's E3 Sony said you could play Destiny first on PlayStation - and then explained it was via an Alpha and Beta test. This year Sony said FFVII you could play first on PS4, they didn't say 'console debut.' So it makes me think that it is possible it will launch simultaneously on all platforms and have an early demo on PS4.
Of course it would have to be AARON GREENBERG who lowers the tone.
Yes companies are competitive but keep it classy.
Abriael you sure know how to write a catchy headline! I would have written "Eight year old game you don't play any more has been made to work on XBO" but you you write "Xbox One Backwards Compatibility: Watch The Glorious Original Mass Effect Running on the New Console!"
Brilliant! ;)
I want this game but am suffering from press conference preview fatigue. Just give us a date already. Although the fact that they haven't said 'This Christmas' makes me think it will be 2016.
I thought the same when I watched it but didn't say anything incase the zealots here attacked me. But glad the co-createor of Gears could see it and was open about it?
The comments by Spencer an early stage of development and the Microsoft partnership with Oculus makes me think that it won't be released before the end of next year.
Cool. It's great that Phil Spencer is open about watching the Sony conference.
This is actually quite crazy. Phil Spencer is a good guy and MS have a lot of money for paying for exclusive DLC. This was in the bag for Microsoft, how could Phil Spencer lose this?
After all Phil Spencer's twitter hype I was expecting to see how he had invested in a bunch of new IP announcements. But this is a bit of a grubby move. Microsoft paying to withhold game features from the PS4 version.
No resolution downgrade parity. Make each version the best it can be.
Didn't the author Ben Kuchera recently make a big song and dance about how he had fallen out of love with gaming and was going to stop writing about it? In that case I don't think his opinion matters too much.
@Blues Cowboy. The Oculus on PC features should be great. The point you make about gaining the benefits of Oculus Rift without having to pay or risk the investment is absolutely right. The fact that Oculus have removed Mac support suggest Microsoft paid for an exclusivity deal. It would explain the weird dichotomy of the XBO and custom controller. MS obviously prefer this to be a success rather than the Valve & HTC option which would strengthen the biggest threat to their ecosystem.
I've been following gamer news for many, many years. I've heard a lot of amazing claims but the key thing you need to do when analysing exciting news is separate the PR/Hype from the Facts.
In this case an Xbox One and Oculus partnership sounds amazing -it really seems like megaton stuff. But the facts are that an XBO controller will be included with Oculus sales. But more importantly the XBO will NOT be able to use Oculus to deliver VR. It will just project a simulat...
Maybe this partnership is the reason Mac support was dropped?
I believe the Steam HTC VR will be PC, Mac and Linux compatible.
When Spencer spoke in EDGE magazine he poo-pood Morpheus VR saying it was not a 'now now thing.' But the premature reveal of HoloLens (great tech, not consumer ready) and this Oculus partnership suggest Microsoft were caught behind the curve when it comes to VR and wanted to be included in the conversation. But streaming an XBO game to Oculus Rift so you can view a game in 2D at a distance seems an expensive and clumsy solution to associate the Xbox brand with VR.

The studio had a name, it was Black Tusk. Renaming them seems like corporate rebranding. It's what EA use to do in their bad old days when they acquired studios. The plus side is the financial support they get. The minus is that a studio loses a little bit of their individual identity.
I have no doubt that the new Gears of War game will be great. But this renaming would have been masterminded by Phil Spencer and perhaps gives an insight into the future of the Microsoft Xb...
The CGI trailer made me think the game still had a long time to go but if Microsoft have the pack shots already does this mean a pre-Christmas release?
